EHO Paul FitzGerald, who has held two webinars for Landlord Law members on the causes of damp in rental properties, has created a simple checklist to help landlords address the problem.
Building on this checklist, LLS has developed a more comprehensive Landlord Law Damp Prevention Kit which goes into more detail about each section of the checklist, with instructional videos taken from Fitzgerald's training webinars.
Dampness and mould problems are the most common and often the most troublesome issues in rental properties.”

Tessa Shepperson, of Landlord Law Services Ltd, said: “Damp and mould problems are often the most common and troublesome problem in rented properties and too often are dismissed as being due to 'tenant lifestyle issues' – but this isn't always the case.”
The kit also contains several leaflets that you can distribute to explain your landlord's obligations to your tenants.
There are also property inspection kits that can be used to check a property for damp following complaints from tenants.
The LLS provides the checklist free of charge, however the damp prevention kit is only available to Landlord Law Business Level members.
Landlord Law provides support, training and legal resources to property professionals in the private rented sector.
