Rightmove has agreed to change the wording of its free valuation advertisements following complaints from estate agents to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
The ad said: “How much is my home worth? Get a free, no-obligation, accurate market valuation from the local real estate professional of your choice.”
misleading
The local agency paid for the ad, but another agency that did not take part in the offer complained that it was misleading.
The issue was privately resolved after the ASA spoke with Rightmove. “Plaintiff, a local real estate agent, understands that the agents listed are a select few in the area who have paid the listing fee, and that the advertisement omitted important information. “We objected that the statement was misleading,” an ASA spokesperson said. problem resolved
“We approached Rightmove in light of the concerns raised. agreed.
“Based on that, we considered the issue resolved,” he said.
Earlier this year, Town & Country, an agency in the north-west of England, reached an informal agreement with the ASA following complaints about one of its advertisements on Rightmove.
The ASA received complaints that properties were being advertised as freehold when in fact they were leasehold.
Advertisements on Rightmove's app and website say the Chester property is “freehold”, which the anonymous complainant said was misleading.
