Landlord fined £52,000 for 'serious safety breaches'

RA Property Ltd and its director Sheikh Raihan Allen Miah were fined £52,000 by Liverpool Magistrates' Court for 23 safety-related breaches under the HMO Management Regulations.

Neither the company nor its directors attended the hearing, but had previously pleaded guilty.

In conclusion, SRA Property Ltd was fined a total of £37,973.43 and its director Sheikh Raihan Allen Miah was fined a total of £13,991.14.

The violations included defective fire detection equipment, defective fire doors, significant trip hazards and other damage discovered during inspections at two West Liverpool facilities in September 2023. .

The judge said the violations were “extremely serious” and said the warden had failed to maintain basic safety measures despite profiting financially from the property.

This is Liverpool City Council's 33rd prosecution for poor property conditions this year, resulting in landlords being fined a total of £342,584, with a further 11 civil penalty notices resulting in fines of £59,862.50.
