Red card given to real estate agent in 'fantasy football' tournament

A well-known Portsmouth sales and lettings agency has been reported to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for its recent Facebook £1,000 fantasy football competition.

In this competition, the cup winner of South Korea Marsh's 2023/24 Fantasy Premier League was given a prize of 500 pounds, and the league winner was given a prize of 1,000 pounds.

The ASA claimants believed they were both cup and league winners, but did not receive their prizes, so they contacted the ASA to question whether the promotion breached advertising rules. I did.

The advertiser has given us written assurances that future promotions will be run fairly. ”

The ASA said: “The advertiser has provided us with written assurances that any future promotions will be operated fairly and will typically award the prize or equivalent within 30 days.

“They also explained that they have been in contact with the complainant and are attempting to resolve the situation. As such, we believe the matter has been resolved informally.”

The Neg does not know the details of how the rules were breached, but social media contests of this nature usually fall under the CAP Code (Committee of Advertising Practice).

advertising rules

CAP advises: “Promoters are responsible for all stages of a promotion, regardless of platform, promotions must be run fairly and marketing communications about the promotion must not be misleading.”

And Rule 8.2 states that “Promoters must be seen to treat participants and potential participants fairly and respectfully, and must avoid causing unnecessary disappointment. ”.

Mr Neg has contacted ROK Marsh Ltd for comment, but has not yet received a response.
