A landlord who is a rental agency has been found guilty by a court of operating a rental property without a license.
Tunde Coker of Alpha Property Services and his landlord Rashidat Adebukola Edekunle-Mohammed were sentenced at Croydon Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty.
Neg could find no address or branch of Alpha Property Services, no evidence that it operated through a limited company, no evidence that Coker or his 'company' were members of the relief scheme and therefore operated legally. I couldn't.
The case concerned a rented house on Havill Street in Camberwell (main image), south London, which had been let to a family, but the landlord was taken to the London Borough of Southwark for faulty heating in the house. I reported it.
The investigation revealed that the property was within the council's selective licensing area and that both the landlord and letting agent had been informed of their obligation to license the property but had not obtained the required license. It turned out that it had been rented to.
fine
The court ordered Mr Edekunle Mohammed to pay a total of £1,128 in fines and costs, and fined Mr Coker £2,256. Both amounts were reduced due to early guilty pleas. It is unclear whether tenants are aware that a rent repayment order could result in them being liable for thousands of dollars in rent.

“This case demonstrates our determination to pursue landlords and hold intermediaries to account when they fail to meet their legal obligations,” said Natasha Ennin, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighborhoods. says the lawmaker.
“The license ensures Southwark rental properties are safe and well-maintained for residents.
“We will continue to take action against those who put tenants at risk and encourage residents to report unscrupulous landlords.”
