Famous Senior Communication Numbers are disqualified

The well-known director of the Conveyancing Academy (TCA) agreed to pay a £175,000 fine and be disqualified from the sector after failing to inform students that they had not been able to provide qualifications since 2021.

Until recently, Lloyd Davis had also communicated the law and charity The Conveyancing Foundation, both MDs of Welsh companies. He founded the academy in 2014 and took students from 100 other practices to use it to train their staff.

However, in April 2021, the TCA stopped approving qualifications approved by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) when staff began an investigation into allegations that internal candidates had pre-examination documents.

I continued the operation

By October 2021, SQA had permanently removed the TCA approval. This is a decision that was upheld by the appeal in March 2022.

However, the academy continued to take on new students and sent out communications that created the impression that the course would still lead to a council of licensed transporters (CLCs).

Davis also did not talk to the Department of Education or Cardiff and Vall College about SQA Action, which has a “apprentice provider” agreement.

Only when students and employers communicated directly with SQA would they learn the truth a few months after the assessment was returned.

In attendance at the CLC's arbitration panel, Davis admitted that his actions were “fraudulent, unfaithful and reckless.”

The apprentice wasted a lot of time, effort and personal sacrifices over two years to study for qualifications she was unable to obtain. ”

He later also apologized for his actions, claiming that he “misunderstood” his obligation to confidentialize SQA from the original investigation.

Students are naturally unhappy as they are unable to transfer their work to a new course. One employer of those who participated in the TCA told LegalFutures:

“Our apprentice wasted two years of much time, effort and personal sacrifice to study for qualifications she couldn't get.”
