Labour MP launches broadside against bad landowners

Labour MP Tom Hayes (pictured) claims that landowners are benefiting from unsafe living conditions, and that tenants live under the shadow of “no-fault” evictions.

Writing in Daily Echo Haze gives many examples. The landlord stated:

And add: “I met a rogue landlord who forces renters to face cramped and unsafe homes.

“They are bad apples and force pensioners to withstand dangerous wiring that takes years to fix.

“The fraudulent landlord forced the tenants to face mold so severe that they were growing mushrooms in the bathroom grout.

He says he is proud to vote for the government's new tenant rights bill to end the Norfoult eviction and provide security to tenants.

And he argues that once it becomes law it will save the reputation of decent landlords who already meet that standard.

We can make sure that all rental homes are safe for the people who live there. ”

He believes the bill will target fraudulent landlords and make it difficult for them to benefit from dangerous living conditions.

The Hayes constituency in Bournemouth East has a concentration of renters, with one in three households concentrated in the private rental sector. That's why he says: “We have to get this right because rentals are a reality for so many families, professionals and retirees.”

And he concludes: “With strong laws and strong local actions, we can ensure that all rental homes are safe for the people living there.”
